    Allied forces have made a new landing on the southern tip of Tarakan Island off Borneo (see page 5 for full details). These 13th Army Air Corps and Department of Information photos show the first stages of the invasion of Tarakan by Australian and N.E.I. forces. At left: Smoke screens laid by Crusader group bombers of the 13th U.S. Army Air Corps billow to hide combat Australian engineers blasting defences blocking the only available landing beach at Tarakan.
