  3. TRENCH AND MINE DIGGERS AT WORK ON THE WESTERN FRONT

    They are here seen cutting out a sap. Of the two men working at the face one has in pick and the other is working a Popper drill either by air or electrical power. The work is not as safe as it would seem to be from the enemy explosives. The enemy may be counter-mining beneath or towards the sap here shown, and it depends upon the "listener" who hears the opposite side first as to which sap gets blown up or in first. ...
