  3. AN EPIC RESCUE--SCENES FROM THE VALLEY OF "SHANGRI-LA," NEW GUINEA.

    A DRAMATIC RESCUE of one girl and two men survivors of an air transport crash who lived for more than six weeks in the lost valley—"Shangir-La," 150 miles south-west of Hollandia N.N.G., was filmed by a Netherlands Indies Government Information Services Film and Photo Unit Photographer, Alex Cann,who parachuted into the valley and spent twelve days with the party. Philipino paratroopers were landed with medical supplies, tents, food and as a means of native barter clothing materials and sea-shells. The paratroopers cleared space for a glider to land, and the rescue was completed. Above is a selection from the films taken.
