  4. BRITISH TROOPS PARTICIPATE IN ATOMIC EXERCISES.

    Troops with picks and spades were helped by [?]2 "Dinkum" hydraulically-operated diggers during a recent British Territorial Army "atomic" exercise on Salisbury Plain. A hole in the ground large enough to house a brigade headquarters was mechanically dug is an hour and a half. Into the hole, end to end, went two large corrugated iron shelters. On top went an 18-inch layer of sandbags. The result was a roomy dugout with 7 ft 6 in. headroom, its roof flush with the ground and proof not only against heat, gammr ... [ILLUSTRATED]
