  3. PINE FOREST AT BYFIELD

    A view of the Department of Forestry's pine forest at Byfield, showing the headquarters on Stoney Creek. The small plot of pine trees in the foreground was planted in 1949. The average height is 11 ft. Picture also shows the nursery in the left centre, and the men's barracks on the right. Pine trees are planted at the rate of 300 acres annually, and, since the establishment of the forest in 1947, 1000 acres have been planted. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
