Advertising : 329 wordsA "roundabout" for teaching dairy shorthorn bulls to walk correctly is used by a Cumberland cattle breeder, Mr Vivian Lancaster, of Calthwaite. This mechanical exerciser has eight arms or spokes radiating from a hub driven by an electric motor. Each bull trainee is tethered by its rope head halter. The roundabout revolves at two miles an hour and the animals follow each other along a 40 yard concrete circular path for half-hour stretches. If a young bull refuses to exercise it stops the roundabout, but a slip gear lets the motor run on without being damaged. Eventually the bull Submits, the arms start again, ... [ILLUSTRATED]
