  4. SIDELIGHTS OF SYDNEY'S ELECTRICITY RATIONING DIFFICULTIES

    Sydney's most paralysing industrial strike began last Monday, when 150,000 workers were idle because of electricity rationing. Many stores were closed temporarily until extra lamps were bought and installed. Picture on left shows barber Harry Evans in an Elizabeth Street saloon calling for extra light to finish a haircut with hand clippers. Centre shows Miss J. Glen making sandwiches by candlelight at the Lunch Box in Hunter Street, Right: Monterey restaurant chef J. McGregor working under difficulties with the electric light supply "dead," but is helped out by Miss Dorothy Parkons.
