    THE TALLY-HO HURDLE RACE AT MORPHETTVILLE this afternoon was responsible for one of the worst hurdle race crashes seen for many years. One horse was killed outright and another had to be destroyed. When the hurdle at the top of the straight was reached the first time round, Acropolis (who was running second) made an attempt to jump the wing and crashed into it. He sustained fearful injuries, and his rider, K. McMahon, was catapulted over the running rail. Traverse (P. Ryan) was following, and also attempted to jump the wing. A portion of the broken rail pierced him, and he Was killed instantly. This remarkable picture shows Acropolis crashing to the ground, while Traverse is trying to clear the rails. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
