Only one of the team, Woolley, has previously toured Australia, so that the crowd enjoyed finding nicknames for some of the new men. Harold Gilligan, the captain (top left) is brother of Arthur Gilligan, who led the M.C.C. test team through Australia in the 1924-5 series. Cornford (top right) is not aa big as "Tich" Freeman, the slow bowler in the last two English teams in Australia. He has also been named "Tich."
