The pilot was Mr. Fred Ward (inset, right), and his passenger Mr. Ray Neville (top, left), employed by the Matthews Aviation Co., which owned the machine. When 1000 feet up on lus first trip in the practically new ’plane, Ward, it is believed, got into a fatal spin.
