  3. " Ship On Fire!" —A Remarkable sea Picture

    ENGULFED IN AN INFERNO OF FLAME, when a benzine tank exploded, the American research yacht, Carnegie, was burnt to the water’s edge in Apia Samoa, on November 29. Captain Ault was flung 30 feet into the air and mortally injured; Kolar, the 18-years-old cabin boy, perished in the blazing galley. This graphic picture of the disaster, obtained when the stricken vessel had been abandoned by her crew, was brought to Sydney this week by an American tourist. Records of observations by the scientific staff of the ship had been posted to America two days before the fire ... [ILLUSTRATED]
