Starting from Mascot Aerodrome Sydney, at 1 a.m., Mr. Guy Menzies, agred 21, a pilot of the New South Wales Aero Club, flew off in the Southern Cross Junior, which he had Sought from Air-Commodore Kingsford Smith. Twelve and a quarter hours later he crashed in a swamp at Ross,in the Westland Province of South Island, 1235 miles away in New Zealand. He was uninjuried, but the 'plane was damaged.
