    POLISHING THE FIRST PIECE OF GRANITE FOR THE SHRINE OF REMEMBRANCE.—Yesterday this operation, marking a new stage in the building of the National War Memorial, was begun on the Domain site. Two to four hours’ grinding with fine sand and polishing with putty powder are required for each stone. Thousands of square feet have to be treated, and a number of machines similar to that shown has been installed by the contractors.
