    FIRST PICTURES OF THE BALLAN BEAM STATION INSTALLATION, obtained during yesterday’s Press visit. Left: An operator sending a message to England by hand. For rapid transmission—up to 400 words a minute—the high-speed Wheatstone equipment, seen just behind the tapping key, is used. Right: Replacing a valve in the rectifier panel, through which current at 10,000 volts is passed to the beam transmitter. Official tests of the installation have been carried out successfully during the past few Weeks, and the commercial beam wireless service between Australia and England will start in a few days. ...
