    Lydia Nance (J. Daniels) and Royal Joker (W.Duncan) in that order at the entrance to the straight in the Open Handicap at Mentone on Saturday. Locked together, the two horses raced toward the winning post In a thrilling neck and neck duel. Daniels was quietly forcing his mount along, with Duncan coolly measuring strides. When about 100 yards from the post, Duncan suddenly became galvanic, and he forged Royal Joker slightly ahead of Lydia Nance.
