Advertising : 23 words“Our Jubilee, 1872-1922,” signifies the introduction of State education in Victoria fifty years ago. The opening demonstration (postponed from the previous week) was held on the M.C.C. ground on Saturday. Sixty thousand people thronged the enclosures and stands to witness the evolutions which were to be carried out by 12,000 scholars. The living [?] provided a magnificent spectacle of bright and happy youth in appropriate costuming, , but the second number, a Morris dance, was interrupted by a violent thunderstorm and the after displays had to be abandoned for the day. The middle picture in top row is of Mr, J. T. Saxton, M.A., senior inspector of the Education Department, who was Chief Marshal. With him is Mr. J. Holland M. A. ex-senior inspector of schools. On the left is Miss Virtue, who had charge of the girls, and on the right is Mr. P. McGregor, deputy Chief Marshal. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
