  4. When All Melbourne Sported College Colors—Public Schoolboys Fight for Head of the River

    Melbourne rose to its full height of enthusiasm on Saturday, when the final for the Head of the River race was rowed. The contagion of the spirit of sport spread throughout the metropolitan district, and seventy thousand people crowded the banks of the river and sported the colors of favorite colleges and schools. A dead[?] between Scotch College and Xavier [?] the crews were unable to row off in time reduced the contestants in the final to Geelong Grammar and Melbourne Grammar.
