    WHAT may be called the “baby” corps of the Victorian defences is also the only “class” regiment in this province—the Scottish. When the subject of the formation of such a corps was mooted at the latter end of 1897, the idea met with such a cold reception from General Sir Holled-Smith and his fellow officers at headquarters that it was almost frozen out of existence, and but for the persistent efforts of the Minister of Defence and the Scottish societies there would not have been any Scottish Regiment here to-day. ...
