    Karl Marx was born of Jewish parents at Treves on May 5th, 1818. At Jena, Bonn and Berlin Universities he rapidly acquired fame, in philosophy more particularly. Abandoning philosophy he entered the field of journalism, and in 1842 became editor of the “Bheinische Zeitung” of Cologne. Marx’s radical nature soon showed itself, with the result that the paper was suppressed.
