  14. MR. ESTELL'S CHRISTMAS DREAM

    The Government has accepted this design by Mr. J. J. C. Bradfield, Chief Engineer of Railway Construction, for the North Shore Bridge. It will provide for four lines of railways, two of which may be used temporarily for tramways, a roadway for horse traffic 35ft. wide, a motor roadway 15ft. 6in wide, and a footway 15ft. wide. The bridge will stretch from Dawes Point to Milson's Point. On the city side the level roadway will be reached at the intersection of Princes and Argyle streets, while at Milsons Point the present level of the road will be met at the intersection of Alfred and Lavender streets. When the design was recommended by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works, in 1913, the cost was estimated! at £2,750,000. The work will now, of course, cost much more. ...
