How the picture came about: "This is a pretty picture," said the man to the Mirror photographer. It was a painting entitled A Letter from the Front. "It's a pretty picture," admitted the photographer, "but it's a painting. I'll show you a photograph taken right here in Sydney, which gives you that, alive." And he did. And this is it.
