    On Sunday, July 17, a dynamite train at Leeuwdoornsstad, in the Transvaal, exploded, killing three persons and injuring 1 1, leaving a vast hole 207 yards in length, resembling a shell-swept trench in Flanders, indescribable desolation for an area half a mile square, wrecked houses, and dead and dying animals. The train consisted of 27 trucks of various kinds of freight, and 33 trucks containing 300 tons of explosives. The picture on the left shows the remains of the train, in the centre, all that was left of the guard's van, and on the right, the ruins of a house 150 yards from the spot where the explosion occurred. ...
