Summary
  • Sybase will direct the primary version of its Navigation Server parallel database system toward decision-support programs to accommodate its Dec 1994 delivery date. A Sybase official noted 80% to 90% of users in beta indicated they desired to only do decision support, even though Navigation Server was created for both on-line transaction processing (OLTP) and decision support. Sybase's DBMS will work with the NCR 3600 supercomputer developed cooperatively by AT&‚ÄčT's Global Information Solutions group and Sybase. Users testing the Navigation Server noted its better-than-expected performance and fundamental satisfaction with the product's development. Sybase's DBMS has numerous reproductions of the database engine and new software to generate and oversee parallel processes. The company will supply distinct methods for allocating and partitioning data across disk drives.
