Summary
  • The problems of stakeholding have become very clear as Barclays prepares to close rural branches so it can maximize profits. However, stakeholding also argues that profit should not be at the expense of the welfare of others. Many Barclays' customers will not be able to access Internet banking which is what Barclays is offering as an alternative. It is not acceptable or socially responsible for Barclays to make such radical business decisions solely to keep the stockmarket happy and the government should do something about it.
