Summary
  • The new Scottish parliament is still a muddy building site more than two years after the building plans were approved. The cost of the building has spiraled to 230 million pounds sterling compared to its original figure of 40 million pounds. Scottish politicians could not agree on the shape and size of the building but have finally agreed that the project can go ahead despite the cost. However, the wrangling over cost and design has led to doubts about the ability of Scotland to govern itself effectively and the politicians' reputations have been badly damaged.
