Summary
  • Microcomputers are increasingly being used for a variety of tasks beyond simple word processing and number crunching. One area of growth is multimedia technology where users can use new equipment and software to produce sophisticated business presentations, complete with audio and video clips. This type of technology will also enable users to go beyond today's E-mail systems and transmit video images via online information services. Such video mail services are expected to be commercially available in 1995. Music enthusiasts can now use their PCs to learn to play the piano and other musical instruments. Another area of growth is home automation. Soon, users will routinely use their PCs to control everything from air conditioners to security systems. Business users will find new shared-scheduling software makes organizing large meetings easier. The software automatically checks each attendee's availability by scanning workers' online calendars for scheduling conflicts.
