  • Jeffrey Smart, artist, on the Australian Eye series, speaks about his travels to Greece, Turkey, Egypt and the Middle East; how visiting these places relates to his work; teaching and teachers in Adelaide (Ivor Hele and Marie Tuck); Marie Tuck was a student of Lucien Simon (Paris) teaching him still life painting and tone; his interest in dynamic symmetry; Leger and the marvellous suitcase pictures; his general acceptance of contemporary painting; how he painted 'Factory on the road' from Florence to Pisa, the Autostrada; working with corrugated iron which he did in the 'Gioconda' in Canberra; 'Truck and Trailer' painting; travelling to and from Rome and his belief that we should all live in Italy; painting called 'Central Station'; his paintings being a mixture of oil and acrylic; his thoughts about the writer T.S. Elliott.
