Summary
"Those who take up this book expecting to learn something more about the personal side of Lester F. Ward are entitled to know how the author came to undertake the writing of the following pages. For several years I was closely associated with Dr. Ward as co-editor of his work entitled, Glimpses of the Cosmos, six volumes published by G.P. Putnam's Sons, New York and London, 1913: Comprising his minor contributions and biographical and historical sketches of all his writings. Month after month I worked with him. We went through all his personal papers. I found in the wonderful and beautiful friendship thus developed a revelation of qualities of mind and heart which could be perceived only through intimate and harmonious relations. Naturally I learned much of the man and of his life. From the many letters and much data in my possession I shall be able to offer a more intimate portrait, and thus share with those who feel a sincere admiration for him, and give to future generations who may study his noble works, some facts in regard to his life, and many of his thoughts never before in print. Dr. Ward's emotional nature was sublime, and only one knowing him through the heart as through the brain, realized how the following pages will reveal that nothing is more true of Lester F. Ward than that he had: "The mind of a sage, the heart of a woman, the soul of a poet"--Foreword. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved).
