Notes
  • "The first number in square brackets is the Edison number for accoustic recordings issued in the USA after 1905. Numbers 1, 6, 13, 17 and 18 are possibly unique private recordings made with a microphone in early 1030's. The accompanist is Marie Narelle's daughter, Kathleen. These recordings carry considerable physical damage, (cracking, de-lamination, shrinkage of lacquer) and this is particularly evident at the beginning of sides (tracks). Regardless of their poor condition they remain important testimony to the enduring siging skills and vocal quality of the singer"--booklet.
  • The performances heard on this CD were transferred and digitally restored from a collection of cylinders and lacquer discs recorded over the space of some thirty years. The restoration process consisted of a number of stages. Firstly, the recordings were cleaned and transferred to a digital medium from which they could be accuratly edited and restored. Variuos styli were auditioned to obtain the best possible signal from them and extraneous noise, typically consisting of scratches, clicks, thumps, crackle and surface wear, was removed using both CEDAR restoration equipment and the Sonic Studio platform in a intensive and often painstaking process --booklet.
