Wetlands -- Australia; Zoology and wildlife conservation; Environmental impact
Australia needs to value and protect its wetlands to ensure their continuance and the stability of the country's environment. Wetlands are threatened by dams, runoff from farms and cities, and development. They provide flood protection, habitats for fish and migratory birds, and process refuse and minerals. The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands raises awareness about the necessity of wetland protection. Australian leaders need to develop comprehensive protection plans to manage the wetlands.
