Summary
AT & T's Datakit-VCS virtual circuit switch was bought by Bank of America for use as the base of a multibillion dollar Global Data Network. Presently 1,600 Datakit networks are used by telephone companies and government agencies. Bank of America presently has 25 networks internationally, used for 70 applications. The new pilot network will use 15 Datakits to link 1,100 branches and offices. The T1 capability of Datakit VSC led to the bank's decision to implement the switch.
