Summary
The results of a survey by the International Communications Assn of telecommunications personnel from the top executive position down five levels to technicians and low-level managers are reported. 58 percent of the executives reported an equal division in their responsibilities between voice and data communications during the workday. Seven percent of the executives function exclusively via either data or voice communications. Work content across all the job levels surveyed was 25 percent all-voice and 23 percent all-data. 65 percent of managers integrate both voice and data communications while 23 percent are all-voice. 33 percent of junior analysts and technicians deal with data only, and 37 percent deal with voice only. 73 percent of respondents got their telecommunications training on the job, while 47 percent report specialization in multiple areas. Average salaries are also reported.
