Summary
  • A spectacular Australian dramatic and musical adaptation of Wagner's Parsifal under the management of Williamson and Musgrove played in Sydney 22 December 1906, and subsequently in Melbourne and Adelaide. Designed as a star vehicle for the young American tragedienne Minnie Tittell Brune, 'Parsifal: or, The Redemption of Kundry' attracted the religious audience through the redemptive 'fallen woman' theme. The encoded discourses of masculine and especially feminine sexuality attracted wide public discussion, while its religious aspect was condemned by actor-turned-preacher Ada Ward.
