It is painted on the front in symmetrical colours of red ochre, pale clay and white which are outlined in black. Front and back surface are convex, with a hand-grip carved into the centre of the back of the shield. There is a small, raised rectangle in the centre of the front of the shield, measuring 3.5 x 2.3 cm, and coloured with red ochre.
