Notes
  • Manuscript (ostensibly a transcript, handwritten in red and black ink).
  • Ostensibly copied from a ms. left in a certain unnamed monastery by a visitor named Hesch from the duchy of Jülich. The copyist (or, if he is not writing with candor, the actual author) is F.A. Hoffsess, Bavarian Hofcammer-Secretarius and Bergamts-Oberverweser of Bodenwöhr.
  • The main section contains a listing by place of the mineral wealth of Germany, followed (p. 138-156) by various chemical tests and recipes.
  • Includes index, the last page of which is partly torn away with some loss of information.
  • LC copy has shelf no. VII-c-37. Accompanied by LC correspondence (carbon copy) dated March 3, 1987 with typewritten reply dated May 12, 1987 regarding this item. Correspondence removed from book and shelved with Third Reich miscellany.
  • Acquired by LC in 1946 as part of the Third Reich Collection. Has Adolf Hitler's bookplate on front paste-down.
