Summary
  • Melba meets Caruso IN 1902, at Monte Carlo, Melba met a young Italian tenor who, with her, was to rule the world of song. He was Enrico Caruso; and the appearance of Caruso and Melba in La Boheme at the Monte Carlo Opera House in the presence of three European rulers and a glittering social audience, created a furore. The story of that night will be told in the story of Melba from 2UW and the Major network stations throughout Australia on Sunday, October 6, at 7.30 pm. The voice of Melba will, as usual, be sung by Glenda Raymond. The role of Caruso will be sung by Mario Dane. At the conclusion of that season, Melba decided to make her first return visit to Australia, and the story of that tour will open in the Melba broadcast on October 13. ★ T>TJSSELL HENDERSON, AB.C. Sydney announcer, has prepared pared a crazy recorded feature, Slightly Off Centre, programmed for 2FC at 9.45 p.m. on Tuesday. October 1. Mr. Henderson has found the records for the session by delving into forgotten corners in the record library. Tarzan, Death of Nelson, and odd-sounding numbers sung by film stars Adolphe Menjou and Marlene Dietrich are some of his finds.
