Summary
  • "This report explores the possible opportunities and challenges for Australia over the next forty years, and how they might be leveraged to create a more prosperous country. The report was prepared by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the National Australia Bank with input from leading experts at CSIRO and more than 50 senior leaders from across the industry, non-profit and university sectors. It discusses the rise of Asia, technological change, climate change and environment, population growth and ageing, institutional trust, and social cohesion, and highlights the need for five key shifts through a revitalised, resilient economy, world class cities, affordable, reliable, low emission energy, healthy and productive landscapes, and an inclusive and resilient culture. The report assumes that Australia can build on past successes by making positive choices that convert global and national trends and challenges into opportunities for future economic, environmental and social well-being. For the most part, these outcomes are dependent on national choices. However, as the global outlook is uncertain, Australia should be adaptable and prepared to deal with the full range of possible global outlooks."
