Buesst, Tristan (Mr); Flats; Martin, Marcus (architect)
Copied from a scrapbook compiled by the Power family, covering themes such as dances, weddings, holidays etc. The Power family in Toorak were descended from Thomas Herbert Power, who accumulated vast wealth as a land speculator, stock and station agent (Power, Rutherford & Co.) and pastoralist. The mansions Moonga and Myrnong in Toorak are associated with the family, as is Powerscourt in Maffra, and Power Avenue and Power Street in both Hawthorn and Toorak. The photos held by Stonnington History Centre (Prahran Collection) relate to Toorak people and events west of Kooyong Road; the bulk of the images copied from the scrapbook, however, relate to people and events east of Kooyong Road, and are held, accordingly, by Malvern Archives. For further information on the Power family, see Chapter 2 (Power's paddock) in "A history of Toorak, 1842-1998" [MA thesis, Monash Uni] by Di Foster, and also "Pounds and pedigrees: the upper class in Victoria, 1850-80" by Paul de Serville. A portrait study of Miss D.M. Templeton.
