  • Stud Stock Sales, Melbourne. Cattle. Following upon the Melbourne Royal Show, important sales of pedigree cattle were held. Messrs. Edward Trenchard and Co. report port having sold a fine lot of Shorthorn cattle on account of prominent breeders. Mr. Wm. McCulloch’s first prize yearling bull Charming Duke 26th made the top price of the day, viz., 330 guineas, being purchased by Mr. John Lee. Bathurst, N.S.W., and Messrs. Tippett Bros.’ third prize yearling bull Prince Carlisle 2nd made 125 guineas, purchased by Mr. James Holmes, Bathurst. N.S.W. Mr. E. A. Porter's hull Alvie Duke of Derrimut 17th was purchased by Mr. W. S. The only Herefords offered were from the famous Point Sturt stud, S.A., owned by the Trustees of the late J. H. Angas. The stud bull, Count Deans sth, sire Spark 35th, was sold to J. Lee Matheson, Lethbridge, for 50 guineas. Sheep. Messrs. J. M. Peck and Sons and Dalgety and Co. Limited held very successful sales of stud sheep. The Shropshire portion of the catalogue met with the keenest competition of the series, stud rams especially selling particularly well, and only four failing to realise the 5-guinea limit for studs, the whole catalogue averaging just on £7.
