  • Left to right: A. Johnson (obscured) from the Bundaberg Astronomical Society; Lee Lafferty (science teacher, astronomical computing, son of Fred Lafferty); Fred Lafferty (ex WWII U.S. Serviceman, architect, 8 inch reflector telescope, occulation observer); Harold Powell (from Hopelands, via Chinchilla, 12.5 inch reflector telescope in observatory. He later retired to Plainlands.); Harold Kennedy (from Kallangur, 6 inch refractor telescope and astrographs in fine dome. He later moved twice, firstly to Mt. Glorious, then to the Toowoomba area. Involved in astronomy and science teaching.); John Colegrove (from Red Hill, 8 inch reflector telescope. He was a variable star observer and went to Sydney in the mid-1970s.); John Davies (science teacher. He was an English emigrant with a 16 inch F/​5.5 telescope, later settled in Rockhampton and then Camden, N.S.W.)
  • Left to right, continued: Margaret Van Vegchel; John Van Vegchel (12 inch scope in the observatory in Balmoral and later moved to Nanango upon retirement, variable stars etc.); Greg Fielding (Bundaberg Astronomical Society, 19 inch reflector telescope in dome); Berenice (Beres) Page; Peter Anderson (from Stafford Heights, 9 inch relector telescope, later at The Gap with a 16 inch reflector telescope in the observatory.); Evon Anderson; Arthur Page (from Chermside North, 9 inch reflector telescope, 21/​30cm Schmidt camera, various astrographs in observatory. Later Mt. Tamborine observatory with a 12 inch Cassegrain and then Mt. Kent with 16 inch optical telescope. (Description supplied with photograph.)
  • The Astronomers Association of Queensland was established in 1969. The Association aimed to foster the advancement of astronomy and observation techniques. In 1978 the Association amalgamated with the Astronomical Society of Queensland, forming the Astronomical Association of Queensland.
