Clark, and family tree of the descendants of Francis and Caroline Clark compiled by James Crompton.
Biography
  • Francis Clark (1799-1853), a silversmith, married Caroline Hill (1800-1877) in England circa 1823 and emigrated to South Australia in 1850. He founded Francis Clark and Sons as a firm of accountants and merchants. Daughter Caroline Emily Clark (1825-1911) brought about the foster care of children formerly maintained in the Destitute Asylum from 1866 and was a founding member of the Boarding-Out Society and later State Children's Council (1887-1905). Son John Howard Clark (1830-1878) was a proprietor and editor of the 'Register', and a member of the Adelaide Philosophical Society and South Australian Institute. Son Matthew Symonds Clark (1839-1921) was a noted ornithologist.
