https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/158404425 - this pic of aviator Keith Anderson appeared in the Sydney Mail on 12th September, 1928...

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16493821 - ditto the SMH

At the time this pic appeared in the Sydney Mail and SMH, Anderson and his mechanic Bobby Hitchcock had been attempting to break Bert Hinkler's England-Australia record (albeit flying Australia-England)...however on the second day of the flight (11th September) they experienced radiator problems and their aircraft (a Bristol 28 Coupe Tourer G-AUDJ) was damaged when Anderson made a forced landing near Pine Creek, in the Northern Territory...they were very lucky to have escaped serious injury...

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16493273 - SMH, 10th September, 1928...report on Anderson and Hitchcock's departure from Mascot the previous day...

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16493616 - SMH, 12th September, 1928...Anderson's account of the forced landing...

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/166259645 - a flipped version of the pic also appeared in the Sydney Mail on 24th April, 1929...in a pictorial on the tragedy that unfolded when Anderson and Hitchcock perished from dehydration after their aircraft made a forced landing in the Tanami Desert, in the Northern Territory, whilst en route to search for Charles Kingsford Smith and the crew of the Southern Cross, who'd gone missing in Western Australia...

Keith Anderson died tragically in 1929. This photo cannot have been taken circa 1940, as stated.
