Summary
  • Freda Du Faur (1882-1935) was Australia's first great mountaineer, but she is better known in New Zealand than in her own country. In 1910 she made history as the first woman to climb New Zealand's highest peak, Aoraki ('sky piercer'), which in Freda's day was called Mount Cook.
