THE AUSTRALIAN ANGLICAN fa JTirsf Ssau% 1891. attempt to supply a Directory, which may satisfy the A. want of those persons interested in the names, addresses, educational status, past and present appointments of the Clergy, as well as the number of Church buildings, stipend, patronage, and other useful particulars of the parishes in Australia and Tasmania, was made owing to my time for some months being only partly occupied by parochial duties, and the desire to render this service to the Church. I hope the Directory may prove to be of some use for reference by the Clergy, Patrons, Churchwardens wardens and others who may require the information now set forth. Some particulars of Diocesan Institutions, &c., have been added in this issue, but when a second issue is called for, I hope to enlarge the usefulness of the Directory by the addition of other general matter of interest to Churchmen. Much of the additional matter has already been prepared, but I have thought it better not to increase the cost of printing, and consequently the price to purchasers of copies of the Directory, for the first issue. The matter recorded is as complete as my opportunities and circumstances of a first compilation permitted, and I hope, with the kind help of patrons, as the publication grows older, the information will become as reliable and approach as near completeness as the ever changing nature of its contents will allow. I shall be grateful if the Clergy will forward me as early as they conveniently may all or any of the items enumerated on the “ Particulars of Clergymen,” and “ Particulars of Parishes,” to be found elsewhere in the Directory. (See coloured leaf pages 87 & 88). Should errors have occurred, or alterations become requisite in the particulars given in this issue of the Directory, I trust to be informed of them, so that they may be rectified in the second issue. Priddle T, W. Taylor, Esq. | T. L. Peate, Esq. HE MOORE COLLEGE GRAMMAR SCHOOL was founded in 1889, and since then there has been steady progress. The buildings, formerly used as a Church of England Theological Training College, consist of the Broughton Chapel, class-rooms and dormitories, which, with the head-master’s house form the school quadrangle. No more than two boys will be put in each of the dormitories, which are roomy and lofty. Attached to the School are six acres of playground ; and a few chains away is the George’s River, which is admirably adapted for boating. A Rowing Club is now being formed. Games and manly exercises are looked upon as an essential part of the school discipline. In addition to Football and Cricket Clubs, there is a Lawn Tennis Club, with sufficient ground for several more courts. Boarders are encouraged to fill up spare time with Natural History, Sketching, Photography, Fretwork, &c. The Course o Study is arranged on the lines of the Junior, Senior and Matriculation Examinations ; but boys are not encouraged to look upon examinations as the sole end of education. The work is divided into classical and modern sides—and a Preparatory School is established for small boys. Religious Instruction, according to the principles of the Church of England, is part of the regular work. It is hoped that a School Chaplain will soon be appointed.
