  • A life on the ocean wave: figure in shirt sleeves leaning on rail of ship looking ill
  • Patience and time runs thro' the roughest day: figure tramping through Australian bush laden with tools and equipment for the diggings
  • How sweet the repose that waits on toil: Figure sitting up in tent kept awake by surrounded by mosquitos
  • Companionship lightens labour: figure seated on box looking intimidated by two larger men standing over him, both armed, unshaven, with shovels
  • All is not gold that glistens: Three figures panning and digging for gold
  • You don't exactly suit me: Male figure standing in water with his trousers rolled up, leaning on his shovel under the sun, while others around him sift through dirt and water.

  • Signed on the front cover in black ink l.r.: B Clayton.
  • It is probable that this book was disbound and the leaves pasted together to form a 'folding book' within the outer boards.
