The selected papers include speeches, letters, statements to the press (both official statements and informal remarks), meeting notes, op-ed pieces and other articles, reports to the Security Council and the General Assembly, and transcripts of interviews. These documents, arranged chronologically, provide a picture of the activities of Secretary-General Annan, the conceptual evolution of his ideas, and his indefatigable efforts to use his "good offices" to find peaceful solutions to conflicts and disputes. Each document is annotated with key words and, as appropriate, contextual information and clarifications of the abbreviations used in the Secretary-General's handwritten notes.
