    Public

Approximately 45 initial Embroidery Lessons by M. Grace Valentine published in the Australasian. From 1 to 30 the lessons are numbered fairly consecutively. After 30, most of the lessons are there, but numbering no longer follows the publication order. At the end of the formal lessons are some examples of embroidery used in conjunction with tatting. These are usually for small items such as a bib for an infant, or a doyley with a tatted edge and an embroidered decoration.

The Australasian conducted an embroidery competition. Twenty-six different Australian wildflowers were printed in the newspaper, one each week -- January to July. General descriptions were the same for each flower, but each had specific colours that were to be used. The 32nd item is the results of the competition. Persons preparing the scans for these pages sometimes identified them as Embroidery Competition, with flower details picked out separately, but many entries were lumped together with adjacent advertising for products and services. Tags will be added with the name of the flower, and embroidery. This list is in publication order, with multiple entries for the different articles, as needed. (42 corrected)

These are all advertisements for various patterns -- from crochet doily to teddy bear toy, and embroidery designs to be ironed on. This must have been a big corporate operation. They appear by the dozens, often on a weekly basis, in newspapers from all over AU and some NZ. Just collecting the responses, and coordinating the mailing of the requested items would have been a big operation. Ads would have to be individualized for each publication with the reply address going to the publication.
