HAMILTON
Mr. Michael Roe, who had been a resi-
dent of Newcatle for sixty-four years,
died on Tuesday at his residence, 27 Deni-
son-street, Hamilton, at the age of 87
years. He took at chill three weeks ago,
which developed into dropsy and subse-
quently resulted In his death. Mr. Roe
was well known in business circles, hav-
ing been a very large property owner,
mainly in Mayfield, Waratah, and at one
time one the owner of about 32 acres of
land in that district. which was subdi-
vlded and known as Houghton in Spring.
and is now practically covercd with
houses. Mr. Roe, who was held in wide
esteem, always had great faith in the fu-
ture of Mayfleld, and lived to see his
opinion fulfilled. He leaves three sons,
James, John Hansell, and Thomas, and
three daughters, Mrs. J. Duncan, of
Punchbowl, Mrs. D. Scott, of Adamstown
and Mrs. C. L. Cooper. on Hamilton. The
funeral will take place to-day, leaving
his late residence, for Sandgate Ceme-
