A seismologist (Mr. J. J. Shaw)
said the centre of the shock was
3985 miles from West Bromwich;
waves appeared to arrive from the
east, in which case the location of
the eartliquiike would be either in
Northern India or north of the
Himalayas in Western China. Three
and a half hours later, the earth was
still vibrating.
An official at Colabo Observatory,
Bombay, said the earthquake was
located about 250 miles to the
north of Bombay. He believed that
the epicentre was out to seaward;
Delhi estimated that the shock oc-
curred about 1400 miles west of
New Delhi, in the vicinity of the
Karachii and was felt throughout
Las Bela, in the State of Baluchis-
