Biographies

Lindsay Dixon Pryor was Professor of Botany, School of General Studies, Australian National University 1958-1976. His particular areas of interest were eucalypts and poplars. He wrote a number of books, including (1991, with J.C.G. Banks). In 1971 he was awarded the NW Jolly Medal by the Institute of Foresters of Australia - the highest and most prestigious honour for outstanding service to the profession of forestry in Australia.

Born Moonta, South Australia, 26 October 1915. Died Canberra, 17 August 1998. Educated University of Adelaide (DSc) and Australian Forestry School (DipFor). Assistant Forester ACT 1936; Assistant Research Officer 1939; Acting Forester 1940; Director, Parks and Gardens Canberra 1944-58; Professor of Botany, School of General Studies, Australian National University 1958-76. Schlich Medal 1935; Mueller Medal, Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science 1976; Foundation Fellow, Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering 1976.

Lindsay [Dixon Pryor] was born in Moonta, South Australia. After attending the University of Adelaide, he graduated from the Australian Forestry School in 1935 with the Schlich Medal.
